Here you will find the life story of Lancelot "Capability" Brown and details about all the English Landscape Gardens he either designed, influenced or on which he worked. The style of gardening introduced in the 1750's by Lancelot "Capability" Brown is colloquially known as "serpentine" gardens, a name derived from one of his most famous features a serpentine shaped lake. The most obvious example of this design being Hyde Park Gardens in London, UK, although not actually designed by Lancelot "Capability" Brown was certainly influenced by his work. As his influence spread this style of gardening has now become know as the "English Landscape Garden", this influence can be seen on nearly every stately home in the United Kingdom.
